Island
Cuttyhunk Island is the last Island of the Elizabeth
Island Chain. It is located in Buzzards Bay with Vineyard
Sound to the south and is approximately ten miles from the mainland.
Cuttyhunk Island is three (3) miles
long and a mile and a half (1 & 1/2) wide with about one mile of paved
roadway. On the south and west sides of the island there are numerous
walking trails that allow you to enjoy the natural undeveloped areas of the
island. Wildlife is abundant with rabbits, coyote, and whitetail deer.
You'll also see several different types of migratory birds that make the
island their home for the summer.
There is an island market and a
couple of craft shops. The Cuttyhunk Corner Store is the largest store on
the island and carries a large selection of desirable items. The Old
Cuttyhunk Club House is a bed and breakfast serving the general public a
great breakfast in season, ( July-August. )
Everything on island is within walking
distance which works out well as there is no rental transportation on
island. Most locals use golf carts to transport luggage, food etc. There are
several rental properties on the island also.
If you're looking for trophy striped bass
fishing or just getting together with a good book and relaxing, Cuttyhunk is
the place.
